Working groups are focused conversations around complex and timely topics. They feature peer and industry presentations, real-world case studies, review of frameworks and policies and plenty of discussion. The topics are evaluated yearly to reflect member needs and interest.

What do you discuss?
Each meeting is different but our focus is on state use cases, data privacy and security risks, criminal exploitation of AI, enterprise policies and frameworks, governance, ethics, transparency and the potential impacts on the public workforce.
Enterprise Architecture & Governance
Examining the role of enterprise architecture and governance in aligning strategy, capabilities and technology—supporting informed decision-making across services, systems, and investments.

What do you discuss?
Each meeting is different, but our focus is on perpetual modernization and business architecture; data management, analytics, and AI; cloud architecture; cybersecurity architecture; enterprise portfolio management; human-centered design; and emerging technologies and readiness.

Operational Committees
Operational committees help guide and shape NASCIO’s conference programming and recognition initiatives. It’s a more hands-on way to contribute expertise, collaborate with peers and see ideas move from conception to execution.
Awards Committee
Members serve as judges for the State IT Recognition Awards, reviewing and scoring entries on innovative state technology projects. The group also provides guidance on award categories, eligibility and scoring criteria as requested.

Open to all members (call for volunteers is held each spring).
When do you meet?
The committee is active between March and August, and meetings are scheduled as needed.
Programs Committee
Members help shape the direction of programming for the midyear and annual conferences, including session topics, speakers, networking events, Give Back organization and experiential components. Their subject matter expertise and broad knowledge of the industry keep events aligned with member priorities.

Who can join?
Open to all members* (call for interest held in the late fall).
*The committee is capped at around 25 members and is appointed to ensure equal representation of member types and educational/networking needs. Factors considered in placements include, but are not limited to, prior conference attendance, past individual and organizational participation on the committee, member type, professional role, business market area and years of membership.
